Its Time to STOP .. !!

Okay.. so , i am hardly a feminist.. Yet, i feel and I know that what is happening is not good.. It just reflects how sick the society has become.. Each day the newspapers are flooded with the headlines about how a normal 10 year old child was raped for months.. how a 2 year old girl was molested by the principal of her school.. yet another incident of feticide (female)..

Reading all these , I was forced to analyse what went wrong and where exactly it went wrong.. Being Indians we always say that we are staunch followers of the Vedas, the Upanishads, The Ramayana and the Mahabharata.. But never have i heard or read any scripture propagating the fact that women are weaker sections of the society.. As a matter of fact, they always spread the message that women are holy.. that they are to be placed at a place equivalent to the gods.. that they bring happiness and prosperity and that even the act of ‘Kanya-daan’ (the hindu tradition of giving away daughters at the time of marriage to grooms) renders you heaven… they were considered so holy that on the 8th and 9th days of the ‘navratras’ (9 day holy period for the Hindus) people were to invite little girls to their places.. and present them with what is called as ‘pakka-khana’ along with the age old tradition of touching their feet.. Never did the Upanishads said that consent of women isn’t required for touching her body.. For a largely ‘religious’ society what goes down in the scriptures is to be the code of conduct ideally.. but what we observe these days is of completely contradictory nature.. Its actually a disgrace to the legacy of such great pieces of work when sins like gender specific feticides are committed in their name.. Over the thousands of years that our civillisation has evolved what went wrong is something that is something far more than debatable..

India was once the richest country in the world both in terms of values and gold reserves.. but want kind of dark magic happened with the minds of the people especially men as the society evolved is un-understandable.. Is the need for coitus so much that it makes men forget the basic Right to life , the right to consent for sex by any women.. is the flow of blood so sudden .. are the hormones so powerful that they make men lose their sanity.. that they make men forget this basic fact that god forbid if the same thing were to happen to their mothers, their sisters or their daughters , what kind of a helplessness would they feel.. the kind of anger that they would have had.. how can they forget the simple fact that they are doing something to someone which they would never ever like to be even heard in their respective families…  rapes.. child marriages.. feticides.. they all form a vicious circle.. a ‘Charavyuh’ which is hard to break but not impossible..

The shocking December 16 case rendered me speechless.. more than that it made me go up there and just ask WHY EXACTLY IS IT WRONG TO BE A WOMAN>.? why are we supposed to compromise on the way we do things just to accomodate the fact that we don’t do anything which can unleash the animal within them.. and why is a rape victim looked down upon by the society.. she ain’t a VICTIM.. she is a SURVIVOR.. she is a FIGHTER..

This topic is so debatable that i can go about writing on it for hours altogether and yet we will never be able to comprehend WHAT WENT WRONG WITH INDIAN MEN..

Its time to get up and do something.. we have been complacent for far too long.. the time has come now for everyone to just tighten up, its a time to change the mindset .. not of others but our own.. its time to DO something..  and this time there is no room for error for errors here will only account for a scenario which is worse than what it is right now..

the time has come to realize that a female is not a sex-object.. she is a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a teacher, a businesswoman, an entreprenuer, an engineer, a doctor.. she is much more than a commodity to be kept within the 4 walls of the house.. she is much much more than that..
